A Call to Fast
Sundown Wednesday to Sundown Thursday, February 24-25

Prayer is at the core of the Christian life.  At Rolling Hills, we count it a privilege to pray, to pray continuously, to pray fervently, for one another, our families, the community, our nation, and the world.

For months we have been lifting up two names, Wendy Kizzar and Carl Poppe, both in a battle with cancer.  The elders at Rolling Hills have called us to a day of prayer and fasting for the spiritual and physical needs of Rolling Hills in general, and for Wendy and Carl in particular.  Please join us in fasting and prayer for the 24-hour period beginning as the sun sets Wednesday, February 24, and ending sundown Thursday, February 25.

A fast is a period of concentrated prayer when people of God forsake food to focus on time with God.

We will break this fast in community.  Everyone, whether or not you were able to participate in the fast, please join us for dinner, Thursday evening, February 25, 6:30pm, in the Fellowship Hall.  The meal will be a family favorite, break-fast for dinner.  Bring the family (no childcare provided, we will all eat together).
Plan for about an hour, ending with a short period of prayer.

Pray from Scripture:

1. Call on God to exalt His name in the world.
“This, then, is how you should pray: ‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name.’” (Matthew 6:9).
2. Ask that through Rolling Hills God would extend His kingdom in the world.
“your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. (Matthew 6:10 ).
3. That the gospel would run and triumph.
Finally, brothers, pray for us that the message of the Lord may spread rapidly and be honored, just as it was with you. (2Thessalonians 3:1).
4. Pray that God would vindicate his people in their cause.
And will not God bring about justice for his chosen ones, who cry out to him day and night? Will he keep putting them off? (Luke 18:7).
5. Call on God to save unbelievers.
Brothers, my heart's desire and prayer to God for the Israelites is that they may be saved. (Romans 10:1).
6. Ask God to direct the use of the sword.
"Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. And pray in the Spirit on all occasions." (Ephesians 6:17-18)
7. Pray that God would for boldness in proclamation.
And pray in the Spirit on all occasions.  Pray also for me, that I may declare the gospel fearlessly, as I should. (Ephesians 6:18-19)
Now, Lord, consider their threats and enable your servants to speak your word with great boldness. (Acts 4:29).
8. Seek the Lord for the healing of wounded comrades.
Is any one of you sick? He should call the elders of the church to pray over him and anoint him with oil in the name of the Lord.  And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise him up. (James 5:14-15).
9. Call on God for the casting out of demons.
He replied, "This kind can come out only by prayer.” (Mark 9:29)
10. Plead for miraculous deliverances.
So Peter was kept in prison, but the church was earnestly praying to God for him. When this had dawned on him, he went to the house of Mary the mother of John, also called Mark, where many people had gathered and were praying.  (Acts 12:5,12).
About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God. Suddenly there was such a violent earthquake. (Acts 16:25-26).
11. Seek God to supply us with necessities.
Give us today our daily bread. (Matthew 6:11).
12. Ask God for strategic wisdom.
If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him. (James 1:5).
13. Call out to God to establish leadership in the church.
Paul and Barnabas appointed elders for them in each church and, with prayer and fasting, committed them to the Lord, in whom they had put their trust.  (Acts 14:23).
14. Pray for God to send out workers, even if it is us ourselves.
Pray therefore the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest (Matthew 9:38).
While they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, "Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them." Then after fasting and praying they laid their hands on them and sent them off (Acts 13:2-3).
15. Pray for the success of other missionaries.
I urge you, brothers, by our Lord Jesus Christ and by the love of the Spirit, to join me in my struggle by praying to God for me. Pray that I may be rescued from the unbelievers in Judea and that my service in Jerusalem may be acceptable to the saints. (Romans 15:30-31).
16. Pray for unity and harmony in the ranks.
"My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me.” (John 17:20-21).
17. Pray for the encouragement of togetherness.
[We are] praying earnestly night and day that we may see you face to face and supply what is lacking in your faith? (1 Thessalonians 3:10).
18. Desire and pray for a mind of discernment.
And it is my prayer that your love may abound more and more in with knowledge and all discernment, so that you may approve what is excellent, and may be pure and blameless for the day of Christ (Philippians 1:9-10).
19. Seek God for a knowledge of His will.
And so, from the day we heard of it, we have not ceased to pray for you, asking that you may be filled with the knowledge of his will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding (Colossians 1:9).
20. Call on God to know Him better.
[We have not ceased to pray for you to be] increasing in the knowledge of God (Colossians 1:10 ; cf. Ephesians 1:17 ).
21. Pray for power to comprehend the love of Christ.
I bow my knees before the Father . . . that you may have power to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth and to know the love of Christ which surpasses knowledge (Ephesians 3:14,18).
22. Pray for a deeper sense of assured hope.
I do not cease to give thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers . . . that you may know what is the hope to which he has called you, what are the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints (Ephesians 1:16,18).
23. Call on God for strength and endurance.
[We have not ceased to pray for you to be] strengthened with all power, according to his glorious might, for all endurance and patience with joy (Colossians 1:11 ; cf. Ephesians 3:16).
24. Ask God for deeper sense of His power within the body of believers.
I have not stopped giving thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers. that you may know his incomparably great power for us who believe.  (Ephesians 1:16, 19).
25. Pray that our faith not won’t fail.
I have prayed for you that your faith may not fail; and when you have turned again, strengthen your brethren (Luke 22:32).
Watch at all times, praying that you may have strength to escape all these things that will take place, and to stand before the Son of man (Luke 21:36).
26. Ask God for greater faith.
Immediately the father of the child cried out and said, "I believe; help my unbelief!" (Mark 9:24 ; cf. Ephesians 3:17).
27. Call on God that we might not fall into temptation.
Lead us not into temptation (Matthew 6:13).
Watch and pray that you may not enter into temptation; the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak (Matthew 26:41).
28. Call on God that we would do good works.
And we pray this in order that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and may please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work. (Colossians 1:10).
29. Ask the Lord forgiveness for our sins.
Forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. (Matthew 6:12).
30. Call on God for protection from the evil one.
Deliver us from the evil one. (Matthew 6:13).
